Thrilling racing action at Brands Hatch Truck event this weekend

Sunday, March 19 2017

This weekend's (25/26 March) British Truck Racing Championship event at Brands Hatch will be packed with high-speed racing action, plus entertainment for all ages off the track. Discounted advance tickets are still available by clicking here.

Headling the event will be eight exciting rounds of the British Truck Racing Championship (BTRC), with bumping and barging from the five-tonne, 1,000-horsepower brutes of motorsport. It's the opening event of the championship, and the drivers will be raring to go from the moment the lights go out.

In addition to eight BTRC races there's a packed support bill featuring some of the best of British motorsport. This includes Legends Cars, a favourite amongst racing fans, featuring pocket-sized replicas of 1930s US hot-rods. The series consistently provides breathtakingly-close action, with closely-matched cars and reverse grids.

Also popular with Truck Racing crowds are the Pickup Trucks, based on the NASCAR-support category in which silhouette-style racers compete. Expect slipstreaming on the pit straight and plenty of overtaking into Paddock Hill, Druids and Clearways.

Silhouette machines will also feature in the Scrapco/Avon Intermarque Championship, which races on both ovals and road circuits. The series is renowned for fast-paced encounters with plenty of excitement and drama.

Joining the bill for Brands Hatch is the Kumho BMW Championship, where some of the best German saloons of the last 30 years will battle for supremacy on the Indy circuit.

There's more tin-top action from the BARC SE Tin Tops and BARC SE Saloons, both series populated by a huge variety of cars from the past and present. Amongst the packed grids, West Kingsdown ace Rod Birley will be aiming to seal his 600th race victory at the event.

Birley, who'll race a Honda Integra in the Tin Tops series for standard machinery and an ex-World Rally Championship Ford Escort in the Saloons championship for highly-modified cars, said: "It all started in 1973, just before my 18th birthday. My first race was in a Hillman Imp and the engine was bought by George Bevan, who's sadly no longer with us, but his son Peter and grandson Jonathan have built the Honda Integra, so it may well be that I get the 600th win with that family association. If not it may be with the Escort which I started racing in 1999 and has had over 300 wins, the vast majority of which have been at Brands Hatch."

The event also features a feast of off-track entertainment for all of the family, including a huge showtruck display, Red Dragon Monster Truck rides, Mini Monster Truck Mania, Team Maximum Lock stunt shows, YoungDrive sessions, go-karting, a big top circus tent, adventure playground, fairground, Diggerland diggers and trade village.
